Satellites positioned at 25.5 and 26 degrees East (Es'Hailsat and BADR) provide a strong signal throughout the Middle East, Africa and beyond. A relatively small (80cm - 100cm) satellite dish is usually sufficient to receive a signal of adequate quality. Selected beIN Sports channels are also available from the Eutelsat Satellite positioned at 8 Degrees West (Arabic speaking - no English language.)

New customers need a beIN Sports Satellite Receiver with paired Smart Card and a Premium Subscription package. beIN Sports subscriptions are not available using a generic Satellite Receiver and beIN Smart Card. beIN Smart Cards are only available when purchased (paired) with an official beIN Sports Satellite Receiver.

Like most places, we have been closed for a long time and during this period, our beIN Sports Subscription came up for renewal. I didn't renew as we were closed with no customers and no takings so, what was the point ?

Now, we can open again and whilst getting ready, I powered up the beIN Sports Receiver - nothing, no lights on the Receiver, no picture on the TV. Is this happening because the subscription has run out ? What do I have to do to get it up and running again ?

Hi Roy,

I can understand your thought process, but no, this isn't anything to do with the expiry of the subscription. This is either a fault with the power supply, or even worse, a fault with the beIN Receiver. Please trace the cable back to the Power Source and try unplugging and re-plugging the power adapter (at both ends). If possible, switch the power adapter into a different plug inlet. If the Receiver does not power up, test the power adapter.

Hi,

Did as you suggested. Tested power adapter and it is OK so, it looks like the beIN Receiver is at fault. I have another, older beIN Receiver that we didn't renew when its subscription ran out. Can we use that instead ?

Hi Roy,

It's unusual to hear that a beIN Sports Receiver has Bricked, but yes, hopefully, we should be able to put a subscription on the older Receiver and use that instead, but as it hasn't been used for a while, there are few things that we have to check before we try to renew its subscription. We can't rush into this without being certain that the Receiver has done all its Firmware and Encryption updates. A major Firmware update was completed in April 2018 and if the old beIN Receiver was taken offline prior to that, this update may not have completed and if it hasn't, we cannot renew the subscription without first completing the update.

Please power up the Receiver and give me a brief description of what happens when you do.

Hi,

Sorry, I powered it up before I asked you whether you were able to put the subscription on it and as soon as I saw that the lights had lit up on the front, I didn't really take any notice of what was going on.

I switched it off and on again to see what happens and everything seems OK / Normal.

Mmmm, OK. Please check the following things and get back to me.

1. What Error Message is displayed when you switch on, after the Receiver completes the Boot process ?

2. Press the OK button on the beIN Remote Control and have a look at the Channel List. Can you see beIN Sports 1 (English), beIN Sports 2 (English) and beIN Sports 3 (English) ?

3. Access the beIN Sports Menu (Menu, Settings, System, Conditional Access, Smart Card Status) - what is the Patch Level number ?

Hi,

I don't know whether this is good, or bad news, but when I was looking for the information that you have asked for suddenly, the screen went blank and then changed colour before displaying a message telling me not to disconnect the beIN Sports Receiver from the power which I didn't. An update took ages to download and install. Is this the update that you mentioned ? When it completed and re-booted, I checked what you asked me to check and the English channels do appear in the Menu and Patch Level 3 is displayed in the place that you asked me to look.

Hi Roy,

Ah, good, everything should be OK now.

Patch Level 2 Receivers cannot have their subscriptions re-activated, but Patch Level 3 can.

Sometimes, Receivers that have completed the update may stay on Patch Level 2 and those that do, cannot have their subscriptions re-activated without further work which involves re-setting the Receiver to Factory Default settings and beIN Sports sending a special signal to the Receiver. This process takes some time and does not always work. Anyway, we're OK now and can proceed to activate the new subscription.

I will message you when the re-activation signal has been sent and hopefully, everything will be OK
